A friendly reminder that drawings are not created from nothing and don’t suddenly appear out of nowhere just to make your blog look pretty. When you look at someone’s art, you’re looking at time and hard work. You’re also looking at years of practice—sometimes a few years if they’re just beginning, sometimes decades. But there’s always effort put into any drawing, and with fan art, that effort is voluntary.
So remember to be kind and appreciative of your favorite fan artists! It can be scary to put your work out there, and they don’t have to do it. <3
An anon asked for a list of drawing challenges, and I had been meaning to post this list for awhile. Some of them are exercises I’ve done in art classes, some are just stuff I think are good things to practice drawing. You can do them in order or not, do all or a few, one a day or all in a day, what ever you like, here are 50 prompts to get you drawing!

I don’t ever stress enough that this is a good reference once you enlarge the images. It doesn’t look promising when you see it in a smaller thumbnail, but, please please please see the full images. They are anatomically accurate up close.
Oh my goodness, darliNG, YOUR ART IS INSANE! I'm wondering if you could offer tips on drawing shoes/feet whenever you have the time. You draw such wonderful sneakers (lol)
Real quick, I just want to say that when I was younger (aka, barely a few years ago) I HATED drawing feet and shoes because I just couldn’t XD SO SEE GUYS!? PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
Ok, now, to draw feet in any way, no matter how personalized and cartoonish and whatever, you still really need to know the anatomy, or, at least how it looks realistically. I cannot stretch how important it is to know anatomy guys.
This is a foot. Now, to get to draw said foot in any kind of way, you need to make yourself a sort of break-down.
As you can see above, all you need to do is to cut it up in parts that are easier to understand and work with. The easiest way to do this is with geometric shapes. It’s really simple, once you know how to split the human body, to draw.
the toes
the heel
and the in-between
and don’t forget the joint aka ankle
So, starting from the shapes, you make yourself a very plain version of a foot:
When you look at the image above, it becomes clearer why it is important to have the foot itself made of different shapes. Now it becomes easier to bend the foot in all kind of poses, because you know what goes where.
For the shoes, when I started actually getting into them (lol) I used to look at actual shoes and just draw. Even now, most of the ideas come from this blog sweetsoles he has huge amounts of such awesome looking Jordans and Nikes and *shudders* all the good stuff.
To learn to draw shoes, really, just draw your own, look at some pictures, go outside and sketch. There’s no easier way to learn to draw anything other than observation and practice.
I hope this helps :D Please don’t hesitate to ask for more advice on anything, ok? :)
draw fast. it’ll look messy for a long time but you’ll improve faster than if you spend 4 hours on every drawing
if you draw in pencil and have a habit of erasing all of your mistakes, try drawing in pen or marker. i know it’s scary but it’ll help in the long run (i’m speaking from experience)
try different methods and mediums but don’t worry about mastering any of them, just have fun
if you’re not rich, buy art supplies from the dollar store, not the art store (seriously. i go through a sketchbook about once a month and i’d rather spend $4 on one than $15)
there’s no wrong way to learn. you can copy other people’s art if you want to, just don’t post it
DO NOT worry about having a consistent style. do not. just draw however you want
if you want to make original characters then do it. don’t worry about if they’re original, or a good design, or if they have an accompanying story. make sonic ocs. do it. it’s fun and it’s not hurting anyone
try not to kill your back. stand up and stretch once in a while
make a folder and save all of your favorite arts for inspiration
draw from life. draw your dog. draw your teachers. draw your desk. draw your own hands (seriously that’s the best way to get better at drawing hands)
in general, drawing from life or a photo is better than drawing from a diagram
draw whatever you want. draw youtubers if you like youtubers. draw undertale if you like undertale. when i was a kid i drew nothing but shadow the hedgehog and horses. everyone deserves to draw what they want without being mocked, and if people start making fun of you, block them and keep drawing
don’t expect to get any notes at first. don’t let it discourage you. if you want validation go show your art to your mom or your friends or your teacher or your grandma
